Just one example out of many.
A favorite teacher of mine from what is now
already numerous years ago (my how time flies) used to take upon himself a programming
challenge in LOGO once a year. These challenges were essentially exercises in
order to keep in mental shape. He'd set out a programming goal for himself and
attempt to see whether he could achieve it. I'm quite sure that each year he did,
though I'm also sure that when he encountered various turns in the road on his
way to getting to a "solution", he was just as happy following those
detours than trying to reach the original goal.
