קורס לתאר שני (מ"א), שיעור.
קורס חובה לתלמידי/ות תואר שני בתכנית ללימודי מגדר, ובחוג לספרות (לאחר סיום ההשלמות, אם נדרשו).

מטרת הקורס לשרטט מפה של התיאוריות הבולטות היום במחקר העכשווי, היינו, במחקר שאינו ממשיך ישירות תיאוריות משנות הששים אלא שמפתח תיאוריות שראשיתן והתפתחותן סביב שנות השמונים. שלושת מוקדי הקורס – תיאוריות של מגדר, תיאוריות של ספרות ותיאוריות של קליטת העולם הויזואלית השליטה החל מהחצי השני של המאה ה- 20 – "מכסים" שורה של תיאוריות משיקות, שקשה היום לשרטט מפה תיאורטית מבלי לראות את כולן וכן את הצמתים הצולבים שלהן. תיאוריות המנסות לתאר ולהסביר את אופן התפישה, את הייצוגים ואת הבעייתיות של ה"גוף", למשל, ממוקמות על צומת של "פוליטיקה של זהויות", יחסי ייצוג וחומר, גלובליזציה, מימטיות לשונית ותמונתית, סוגיות של הכלה והדרה, דיון בקיומם של שברים וסתירות פנימיות ובמאמצים להעלים אותם ובתפקידים הלאומיים, האתניים, המעמדיים והדתיים של "גוף" בכלל ו"גוף" בהקשרים שונים. לשם כך יש צורך להבין, למשל, את הקשר בין פוקו, אלתוזר, באטלר, מירזוף, רוגוף, הארדט ונגרי, הומי באבא, ג'יימסון ועוד אחרים; היינו, תיאוריות ניאו-מארקסיסטיות, פוסטמודרניסטיות ובעיקר פוסטסטרוקטורליות, של לאומיות ושל פוסטקולוניאליות, של יחסי מגדר-אתניות-לאומיות-מעמד, והזליגה בין התיאוריות ושבירת הגבולות ביניהן ביחד עם שבירת תפישת הקוהרנטיות של הסובייקט והיציבות של יחסי הכוח.
הדיון ימקם את התיאוריות העכשוויות ביחס לתיאוריות סטרוקטרליסטיות ויעקוב אחר היחסים בין שתי קבוצות תיאוריות אלה.

חובות הקורס:
נוכחות והשתתפות פעילה – חובה.
הגשת עבודות-ביניים קצרות (בנות עמוד אחד).
הגשת רפראט (עבודת סיום קורס) בהיקף של 10-15 עמודים.

This is a compulsory course for graduate students (MA) of both the Department of Literature and The Gender Studies Program (in both program only after completion of the obligatory make-up courses from the undergraduate program); its aim is to acquaint students graduating from a variety of disciplines and with different levels of theoretical practice with the current theoretical arena on their first year as graduate students. The study of the theories themselves will briefly cover structural theories, and will move on to focus mainly on postmodern and post-structural philosophy and theories developed after the theoretical age of the 1960s, mainly as of the 1980s. The three foci of the course – gender, literature, visual culture – are strongly linked to each other both in terms of the theories they all use, and in terms of the topics they are concerned with today: materiality and representation; the body and pain; identity politics; globalization; verbal and virtual mimesis; exclusion and inclusion; gaps and inner contradictions (in theories and especially in texts), and the apparatuses used to veil the means of their concealment; and nationality, ethnicity, religion and class as related identity axes and theories. The course will try to point to the reciprocal effects of the theories of Foucault, Althusser, Butler, Jameson, Roggof, Mirzoeff, Hardt and Negri, Homi Bhabha and others.

Two short (one page) mid-term papers due towards the end of the term.
One 10-15 pages final paper.

מטרת הקורס היא לחשוף את התלמידות לתיאוריות מתקדמות העוסקות בהבניות החברתיות של נשיות וגבריות כפי שהן באות לידי ביטוי במשפט. הדיון במשפט יהווה אמצעי לדיון תיאורטי באופנים שבהם החברה מתייחסת למערכות היחסים שבין נשים לגברים, מעצבת זהויות מיניות דיכוטומיות והיררכיות, ומתעלמת מחוויות החיים של נשים. בנוסף לדיון התיאורטי, הקורס מבקש להפגיש את התלמידות עם מתודולוגיות מחקר שונות המשמשות את הדיסציפלינה הסוציולוגית ואת חוקרי המשפט ולדון בהיבטים המגדריים של העמדות האפיסטמולוגיות העומדות בבסיס המתודות השונות.

נוכחות חובה.
10% מהציון – השתתפות בעל-פה במהלך השיעורים ו/או הגשת התייחסות לחומרי הקריאה בכתב לפני השיעור.
90% מהציון – עבודה בכתב בהיקף של 15 עמודים שתעסוק בסוגיה חברתית-משפטית בהקשר הישראלי, תוך בחינתה לאור התיאוריות והמתודולוגיות שתלמדנה בקורס.

The goal of the course is to expose the students to advanced theories dealing with social constructions of femininity and masculinity, as expressed in the law. The discussion about the law will be a mean to a theoretical discussion about the ways society relates to the relations between women and men, constructs gendered dichotomist and hierarchical identities and ignores life experiences of women. In addition to the theoretical emphasis, the course will deal with different research methodologies used by the sociology discipline and those who study the law and will discuss the ontological standpoints that are at the base of the different methodologies.

הסמינר עוסק בסוגיית המגדר בחברות מזרח-תיכוניות דרך בחינתם של נושאים מרכזיים. מתוך גישה ביקורתית הוא סוקר ובוחן מגוון של שיחים, תפיסות, אידיאולוגיות ופרקטיקות חברתיות, כללית ובהתמקד במקרים ספציפיים. אוריינטליזם, פוסט-קולוניאליזם, פטריארכיה, 'מודרניזציה', מדינה, לאומיות, פמיניזמים, אזרחות, משפחה ומשפחתיות, אידיאולוגית 'כבוד המשפחה', גבריות ונשיות הם מכלול הנושאים העיקריים שהקורס בוחן את אופיים הממוגדר מצד אחד ובוחן דרכם את נושא המגדר, מצד שני.
קהל היעד: סטודנטיות/ים למ"א בתוכנית ללימודי נשים ומיגדר
חובות הקורס: א. קריאה שבועית שוטפת של הפריטים הביבליוגרפיים; נוכחות ב 80% מהפגישות והשתתפות פעילה בכיתה.
ב. חובות ביניים: הגשת 3-5 דוחות תגובה (היקף התגובה כ500 מילים על פריטים ביבליוגרפיים - 20% מהציון הסופי).
ג. הצגת רפראט (20%)

This course examines gender in Middle Eastern societies by examining central related issues. Through a criticizing approach it reviews various discourses, notions, ideologies and social practices, generally and by focusing in specific cases. Orientalism, postcolonialism, patriarchy, modernization, state, national projects, feminisms, citizenship, family, sexuality regime, masculinities and femininities compose the range of issues that the course examines them as gendered in the one hand, and through which it examines gender, in the other hand.

בקורס נערוך סקירה ביקורתית של הקאנון המקובל בזרמי האמנות המודרנית, דרך סוגיות פמיניסטיות העולות מן היצירות והנדונות בטקסטים של בקורת מגדרית.

במהלך הסמסטר נבחן שאלות מרכזיות כמו למשל מדוע כה רבות מיצירות האמנות של התקופה מתארות את הגוף הנשי, לרוב העירום; מה באמת בין פורנוגרפיה לאמנות "גבוהה"; מה בחווייה "המודרנית" של פריס גרם לשגשוג האמנים הגברים ולדיכוי ולהשכחה של נשים יוצרות; אילו נושאים וסגנונות בכל זאת יצרו הנשים האמניות בתקופה הנדונה; אילו מגמות חדשות עלו במחצית השניה של המאה העשרים שאיפשרו שינוי עמוק ומהותי במעמדן ובמיקומן של אמניות נשים; מה היתה השפעתו של העידן הפוסט מודרני על יצירתן של נשים ועוד.

In this course we will conduct a critical survey of the modern art history and of several canonical art works well-known, using feminist methodology and seminal texts regarding gender issues in these works.

We will perform re-readings of familiar subjects in art history and suggest interpretation that prevail in the contemporary disciplinary discourse, among them multi-culturalism; globalization and post-colonialism.

During the course will we survey two major time periods – the 19th Century and the 20th Century. In the first part, we will discuses and analyze artifacts from the European continent and in the second part we will move on to have a close look at art made in the Americas. We will be asking questions such as why so many of the art works focus on depicting the female body – mostly naked; what exactly was in the 'modern experience' of the 19th Century in Paris that gave way for man to prosper and to the exclusion of women-artists, and what kind of subjects, themes and media did women-artists work in during that period in spit of their difficulties; what is the connection and the relations between pornography and 'high art'; which new trends in the second half of the 20th Century gave way to new opportunities for women-artists and changed their position in the art-scene and in culture in general; and many more.

Feminism and fairy tales

הקריאה הפמיניסטית לשינוי במעמדן וערכן של נשים בחברה הביאה עמה את הצורך לחשוב מחדש על עקרונות יסוד שבאמצעותם אנו מבינים את העולם סביבינו. הקורס יציג את הביקורת של הפילוסופיה הפמיניסטית על מסורת המחשבה המערבית ואת האלטרנטיבות שהיא מציעה בסוגיות אלו.
בין הסוגיות שיבחנו: האם מגלמת תפיסת האדם המערבי דימוי אידיאלי של גבריות? האם אשה נכללת בהגדרות אלו? האם יתכן אידאל שונה של אנושיות וסובייקטיביות?
כיצד המודל המדעי והתפישות האפיסטמולוגיות שבבסיסו קשורות למציאות חברתית? אילו מודלים של ידע מאפשרים יחסים חברתיים צודקים יותר?
מהו שיפוט מוסרי הרואה בהתנסות, ההיסטוריה והעמדה החברתית של נשים כר לגיטימי ופורה לשיפוטים מוסריים?
למה למעשה צריכות לשאוף נשים האם לשוויון ואולי להכרה בהבדל? האם אלו בהכרח סותרים?

דרישות הקורס: מבחן

The basic premise of feminist philosophy is that feminist struggle for equality requires re-evaluation of the basic structures of Western thought. Thus, feminist philosophy questions the fundamental understanding of Human reality and attempts to suggest new perspectives on traditional philosophical issues. In this course we will meet some of the most prominent thinkers of feminist philosophy, who represent the main theoretical standpoints of feminist philosophy. We will review their critic of the traditional metaphysical and epistemological ideal of humanity, rationality, knowledge and ethical agency. We will also evaluate the different suggestions for new understanding of these basic concepts, and the way they suppose promote social change.

במרכז הקורס יעמדו מושגים, סוגיות ותיאוריות שבחזית המחקר המגדרי היום. כבסיס להבנתם, יוצגו בקורס התשתיות הפילוסופיות והתיאורטיות שבבסיס התיאוריות הפמיניסטיות העכשוויות, כמו גם תיאוריות הממוקדות לאו דווקא בחקר המגדר אך משיקות זו לזו ומזינות זו את זו, כמו תיאוריות פוסטקולוניאליות וקוויריות. הקורס, שלא נועד להציג גישה היסטורית של כרונולוגיה של התיאוריות הפמיניסטיות מראשיתן באקדמיה בסוף שנות הששים של המאה העשרים, מציב כנקודת המוצא שלו את הפילוסופיה הפוסטמודרנית ואת התיאוריות הפוסטסטרוקטורליות, תוך דיון בויכוח אודות התאפשרות פמיניזם פוסטסטרוקטורלי והפוליטיות של פוסטמודרניזם. בעיקרו, יעסוק הקורס בייצוגים של נשיות וגבריות והיחסים ביניהן, ובחשיבותם הקריטית של הייצוגים האלה לכינון הסובייקט. דרך סרטים, דימויים בפרסומות, סיפורים וקטעי פילוסופיה ועיתונות ייבחנו הסוגיות המרכזיות בשאלת הייצוג: כיצד נוצרים סטריאוטיפים, מה הפונקציות שלהם וכיצד חלים בהם שינויים; כיצד מוצרי תרבות מייצרים ומאשררים סטריאוטיפיזציה נשית וגברית; ועל אילו שאלות מנסות התיאוריות הפמיניסטיות לענות בהתייחס לייצוגים אלה. בעזרת מאמרים ייבחנו שאלות של היחסים בין החומריות לבין הייצוג; של אופני הקליטה (קריאה) האפשריים של מוצרי תרבות – הגמוניים, מהפכניים וחתרניים; ותיאוריות של כינון סובייקט והתפקיד של טקסטים בתהליך הבלתי נפסק והחוזר שוב ושוב הזה, בדגש על הזהות המגדרית.

חובות הקורס: נוכחות והשתתפות. קריאה שוטפת במהלך הקורס.
בחינות במהלך הקורס: יתקיימו 2-3 בחינות בקיאות והבנה קצרות במיוחד על מאמרים.
חובת סיום הקורס: בחינת כיתה.

This course will focus on concepts, problems, and theories that occupy the most recent, cutting-edge thoughts on gender. As a starting point for this course’s point of view on current feminist theories, issues raised by Postmodern philosophy and Poststructuralist theories such as the centrality of ideology and its contribution to political activism, solidarity, and gender-agency will be discussed. Also in discussion will be issues of subject-constitution and the centrality of “Reading” texts for self-constitution of an ever-changing, never coherent subject. These issues and others will be exemplified through the study of men’s and women’s representations: stereotypical (hegemonic), revolutionary, and subversive, in films, stories, and media. Issues such as representation and matter; the relations between feminist theories and postcolonial and queer theories; and how does stereotype matter will accompany the study of basic notions such as the concepts of “gender,” “otherness,” and “the female secret,” and the understandings of women’s writing, some of the chronology of the rise of feminist theories in philosophy and theory and their relevance today, and contemporary offshoots such as the study of “the body,” of nationality and post-nationality, and of the politics of the gaze and its variety of hierarchical power relations.

בשנים האחרונות תופסות שיטות המחקר האיכותניות מקום נכבד בחקר העולם החברתי. התיאוריות הפמיניסטיות תרמו תרומה מכרעת להתפתחותן של שיטות מחקר אלה ולדיון התיאורטי והמוסרי המלווה אותן. קורס זה עוסק בקשר שבין תיאוריות פמיניסטיות לבין שיטות מחקר, בין היתר, תוך בחינת סוגיות בחירת שאלת המחקר, אוכלוסיית המחקר, כלי המחקר, יחסי חוקרת-נחקרת, הטיה ופרשנות. בנוסף, תיערך היכרות ראשונית עם כלי המחקר העיקריים שבהם נעשה שימוש במחקר איכותני, דוגמת ניתוח טקסט, ראיון עומק, ותצפית. הדוגמאות שילוו את הקורס הם מחקרים פמיניסטיים מישראל וממדינות אחרות העושים שימוש בכלי מחקר איכותניים. התלמידות תידרשנה להגיש תאור בכתב של בחירת שדה המחקר, להציג בכיתה לקחים מתודולוגיים מעבודתן, ולהגיש עבודה מסכמת שתכלול דו"ח תצפית, תמלול של ראיון, וניתוח רפלקסיבי של חווית השימוש בכלי מחקר איכותניים.

Qualitative research methods gain growing importance within the study of the social world. Feminist theories contributed substantially to the development of these methods and to the theoretical and moral debates surrounding them. This course deals with the relation between feminist theories and methodology. It looks into the questions of choosing the research question, the studied population, research methods, power relations between the researcher and the informants, interpretation and validity. In addition, the course provides introduction to basic research tools such as interview and observation. The examples provided throughout the course are feminist studies from Israel and other countries that use qualitative methodology.

נרטולוגיה (narratology) היא תורת הסיפור – כל סיפור באשר הוא רצף של אירועים המייצגים את פעולותיהן של דמויות במשך של זמן.
לפיכך לימוד עיקרי הנרטולוגיה הוא משמעותי עבור מי שעוסק ביצירת "סיפורים" בספרות, בקולנוע, בכתיבה עיתונאית, בדיווח על אירועים, בכתיבה דוקומנטארית, בהיסטוריוגרפיה, בכתיבת ביוגרפיות ואוטוביוגרפיות, בכוריאוגרפיה וכיוצ"ב. ממילא, זהו תחום שעשוי לעניין כל קורא וצופה, שמבקש לבצע קריאה או צפיה "חזקות", עשירות ורבות משמעות.
בקורס זה נדון במבחר מעיקריה של הנרטולוגיה, תוך התבוננות ביקורתית בהיבטים מסורתיים וקאנוניים מול היבטים פוסט-מודרניים וחתרניים. כל הנושאים שיילמדו בקורס יוצגו תוך חקירת אופיים בכפל מבט: מבט מן המרכז ומבט מן השוליים.

Narratology is the theory and study of narrative, which regards stories as sequences of events representing the actions of characters through time.
Studying narratology is therefore of highly importance for those who deal with creating stories in all fields and genres: literature, film-making, journalistic writing, reporting and testifying events, documentary writing, historiography, biographies and autobiographies, choreography etc. In any case, narratology is a field of study likely to be relevant and interesting for any reader or viewer seeking to experience a "strong", rich and meaningful reading.
In this course we shall discuss some of the basic and fundamental principles of the narratology, while retaining critical observance of the traditional and canonic aspects versus the post-modern and subversive ones. All topics to be discussed during this course will be presented through a double perspective: from the center of narratological tradition to the margins and vice-versa.
Topics to be addressed during this course are: What is drama and the dramatic? What are the literary genres and are they restrictive? What is a plot and how is it constructed and presented? What are beginnings and endings of stories? What are turning points, the peaks and the unraveling points of the plot? How a literary character designed and what are its functions? What are stereotypical characters and what produces a character's individuality? What is a hero and anti-hero? How are elements of background, atmosphere, place and time represented? What is the function of narrator? What is a narrative perspective and a narrative gaze and what are their various types? How do different themes and ideas become "translated" into plots? What is the role of symbols and motifs? How are different duration of times represented in the story? Etc.
A wide selection of literary and cinematic works taken from the Hebrew and the general literature and cinema will accompany the course.

This course is an introduction to feminist criticism of the fields of biology relevant to the current gender debate, dealing briefly with genetics, evolution, sociobiology, ethology, neuroscience and medicine, with discussion of the theme of gender differences in the brain. The course provides examples of both standpoint criticism and deep feminist social criticism. The course is intended for students with no background in biology. Stories of femmes fatals reflect anxieties and wishes of both men and women. For generations, femmes fatals were the only model of “liberated” women, highlighting cultural attitudes to female sexuality. The course will follow such stories from ancient Egypt and Greece to modern literature.

Simone de Beauvoir’s writings constitute a cornerstone in the development of the XXth century’s feminist thought. The course will examine the evolution of French feminism from Simone de Beauvoir up to the present, considering the central feminist writers of the ‘70s: Helene Cixous, Luce Irigaray, Julia Kristeva , Christine .Delphy , Antoinette Fouque , Monique Wittig and others.

We shall be reading in detail central and representative texts of those female thinkers, and we shall also examine their contribution to the feminist thought and the critical feminist dialog (sociological, literary, psychoanalytical), as well as the problems they raise and the criticisms expressed against them (Elisabeth Grosz, Gayatri Spivak , Judith Butler, Toril Moi and others).

בשיעור יקראו הסטודנטים מהווידויים ויסבירו מה מביא את רוסו להעמיד למשפט את ז'אן-ז'אק. הסטודנטים יקראו את גזר הדין במשפטו של פלובר ויסבירו כיצד שופטת החברה את הסופר, בו בזמן שאמה בובארי, הגיבורה, חיה למען מימוש רצייתה, וכך מהווה מראה שמשקפת אי-צדק חברתי. הסטודנטים יבדקו קשרים בין "בפתח החוק" של קפקא ומאמרו של דרידה על הסיפור, לבין "דו"ח לאקדמיה," ויסבירו את הפער בין צדק למערכות של משפט וידע מובנים. בהמשך יבדקו הסטודנטים את מקומו של הצדק ביחס למות-המספר אצל בנימין. הסטודנטים יסבירו באילו מובנים שלילת כושרו של העד לדבר ולהאשים מבטלת קיומו של צדק, על פי ליוטר, אמרי, והרטמן. עוד יקראו הסטודנטים כיצד מסביר פרידלנדר את החלטתו של הרייך השלישי לחוקק חוקים מנוגדים לעקרונות מכוננים של המשפט שממילא הורסים את אפשרות חשיבתו של צדק. הסטודנטים ינתחו את מעמדו של המונולוג אצל קאמי ואת הקשר שלו לבגידה, להונאה עצמית, ולניסיון למסד צדק באיחור. הסטודנטים יחקרו קשר בין הלא-מודע והאירוע הטראומתי שהוא זוכר לבין הרצון לדעת/לכונן אמת. הסטודנטים יבדקו האם, לדעת מוריס בלנשו, קורבנות האסון יכולים להיות אקטיביים ולספר את סיפורם או שהאסון מכתיב את הסיפור שיספרו, את החלום שיחלמו, ואת החיים שינהלו? במהלך הקורס, יחקרו הסטודנטים קשר בין אי-פתיחות לאי-צדק כפי שאלו משתקפים בחמישה סרטים שדנים בקשר בין קולנוע להליך השיפוטי ולעקרונות הצדק המופשט: קרמר נגד קרמר, החותם השביעי, משפטי נירנברג, ביטוח חיים כפול, ונערה עובדת.

The course will describe connections between justice and film and literature by examining texts, films and psychoanalytical and postmodern articles on film and literature. Film and literature are interested in justice because in them something overt or covert is useful. The "storyteller" is a man who can give advice to his readers says Walter Benjamin. Film is a system of images that thinks life philosophically. As readers, students are witnessing that literature emerges from a personal and social truth that the storyteller makes accessible. As spectators, students see that the cinematic medium is misleading as the images of daily living—conscious images and those that emerge from the unconscious mind—mislead us. But in the same way that daily experiences are discontinuous and yet they produce possibilities of understanding or generalizing, film and literature clarify and create readability. The finished film is based on cutting and editing that uncover a personal and social truth related to the structure of the world and the consciousness that copes with it. Yet, because justice is an abstract complex structure language does not usefully represent it. Film and literature develop technical methods that position justice at the core of the work even when it describes a large variety of events.
What is the relation of film and literature to justice, of the director/author to the possibility of representing questions that uniquely the power of judgment can decide upon? What is the relation of judging and the possibility to define justice to directing, writing and reading, especially in the times in which we are living? What is the relation between narrative and history, confession and justice, storytelling and survival and allegory and knowledge?

The focus is on Greek mythology and Grimms' tales: the collective sources of these reveal common cultural patterns in the West.
Comparisons with stories of fathers and sons, as well as mothers and daughters, support the characterization of paternal roles specific to daughters.

The psychoanalytic discourse is charachtarized by dynamic and various attempts to understand, construct, and interpret the meanings of gender for human subjects. The course will introduce students to issues such as femininity, the interwoven relationship between sexuality and gender, the interwoven relationship between sex and gender or gender development.
We will also examine the transformation through which these concepts developed throughout the history of psychoanalytic discourse. Beginning with classical conceptualizations through reconstructions advanced by feminist and queer discourses.
We will examine these theoretical issues through locuses such as the discourse on violence against women, transgender or pornography.

במסגרת הקורס נקרא בטקסטים מן התאוריה והביקורת הפמיניסטית הבוחנים את הגוף הנשי כאתר של פרקטיקות חברתיות, כטקסט תרבותי וכקונסטרוקט חברתי. הטקסטים הללו יבחנו את הגוף כמדיום תרבותי, אשר צורותיו ומשמעויותיו המשתנות משקפות את הקונפליקטים והשינויים ההיסטוריים, ואשר על גביו הפוליטיקה של הג'נדר מתגלה בבהירות רבה. בעזרתם של טקסטים אלו נתבונן במופעי הגוף הנשי במבחר של טקסטים מן הספרות הקולנוע והאמנות.
הגוף הנשי יבחן כביטוי של פרקטיקת השליטה החברתית, בתהליך יצורה את ה'נשיות',
אך גם כשדה קרב לאידאולוגיות יריבות, ולמיצגים של מרדנות וסרבנות.

In the dominant traditions of the patriarchal culture the social subordination of women was justified in terms of the inferiority of their body.
The female body is the site where representations of gender difference and identity are inscribed and hence one of the central issues in feminist criticism and theory.
During the course we will read texts from the feminist literary criticism and theory which examines the female body as a site of social practices, as a cultural text and as a social construct. These texts will examine the body as a cultural medium whose changing forms and meanings reflects the historical conflicts and changes as well as reveals the gender politics. Through these texts we will examine the body performances in a selection of texts from literature, film and art. The female body will be examined as a site to practices of social control in the process of constructing the "feminine" but also as a battle field to opponent ideologies and to rebellious actions.

הסמינריון יוקדש לבירור המושג "משפחה" כפי שהוא עולה מפרשנותן של יצירות ספרות שונות. היצירות יהיו משל סופרות וסופרים שכתבו בתקופה של מאה השנים האחרונות, וביניהם: נחמה פוחצ'בסקי, דבורה בארון, י"ד ברקוביץ, יעקב שטיינברג, לאה גולדברג, ש"י עגנון, ע' עוז, עמליה כהנא-כרמון, רות אלמוג, יואל הופמן, יהודית קציר, דורית רביניאן – ועוד. רשימה מפורטת תתפרסם באתר הווירטואל לקראת סוף סמסטר א' תשס"ח.

את רוב הסיפורים הריאליסטיים ניתן לקרוא דרך הפריזמה של סיפור משפחה, מתוך נסיון פרשני לחלץ מתוכם את המובן מאליו ואת הנחות היסוד של הסיפור ביחס למושג/למוסד "משפחה". הנרטיב של הסיפור, הדמויות המרכזיות והשוליות שלו עם דרכי אפיונן, הדרמה המתחוללת בו, ההתרה של הקונפליקט – כל אלה, ומרכיבים נוספים של הטקסט הספרותי, משתתפים בעיצוב עולם המשפחה, חיי המשפחה, היחסים הנקראים "משפחתיים". הדיון בסמינריון ינסה להתמקד בתימות בולטות אחדות המהוות סימן זיהוי אפשרי להגדרת סיפור המשפחה ולהצבעה על אופני ייצוג המשפחה בספרות.

הסמינריון יתנהל במתכונת של דיונים קבוצתיים המבוססים על הכנה מוקדמת של טקסטים מחקריים ושל יצירות ספרות בהתאם לרשימה מפורטת שתופיע באתר הווירטואל.
יוטלו במהלך הקורס מטלות קריאה וכתיבה. הציון בקורס ייקבע על פי ציון החיבור הסמינריוני שייכתב בסיומו.

Graduate Seminar (Women & Gender Studies; Hebrew Literature; Graduate Program in the Arts)

The seminar will be analyze and deconstruct the concept of "family" as it emerges from the interpretation of various literary works, with a wide interdisciplinary background of theories regarding family, roles, gender, work, siblings, androcentrism, patriarchalism, etc. Works to be discussed will be of women and men authors who wrote and published their works during the last century, and include, among others: Nechama Pohatchevsky, Dvora Baron, Y. D. Berkowitz, Jacob Steinberg, Lea Goldberg, Shmuel Yosef Agnon, Amos Oz, Amalia Kahana-Carmon, Ruth Almog, Yoel Hoffmann, Yehudit Katzir and Dorit Rabinyan. A full and updated list of works will be published on the course website.
Most realistic stories can be read through the prism of the family myth, along with the interpretative attempt to extract the obvious ideology and the cultural presuppositions embedded in the text. Discussion in this seminar will focus on several main themes and attempt to understand the disseminating role of literature regarding the cultural construction of family. We will move toward a definition of a 'family story' and point out techniques of representation of the family in literature.
This seminar will include group discussions based on the students pre-reading of both literary and research works posted on the website. Students are expected to add reading lists of their own.
Requirements: (1) reading and writing assignments throughout the seminar. (2) submission of a seminar paper at the end of the semester.
Final grade will be determined by the seminar paper.

תיאור הקורס: בספר הקלאסי של ביקורת הספרות הפמיניסטית The Madwoman in the Attic, מפרקות סנדרה גילברט וסוזן גובר את הדרכים להבניית הסובייקט הנשי בספרות: " Thus, because he is an author, a 'man of letters' is simultaneously, like his divine counterpart, a father, a master or ruler, and an owner: the spiritual type of a patriarch, as we understand that term in Western society." מתיאור זה של מבנהו או צורתו של הרומן במאות ה- 18-19 ולא רק מייצוג האידיאולוגיה שמייסדות אותן יצירות ענק של תרבות המערב עולה השאלה אותה חוקרות גילברט וגובר ובו בזמן הן גם חותרות תחתיה ומבנות אותה מחדש: "Where does such an implicitly or explicitly theory of literature leave literary women? If the pen is a metaphorical penis, with what organ can females generate texts?"
ראשית, יקראו הסטודנטים רומנים קנוניים מאת האחיות ברונטה, וג'ורג' אליוט שמאששים, מאייכים, חותרים תחת או מפריכים טענות שבהן מחזיקה ביקורת הספרות והביקורת הפמיניסטית בפרט. שנית, הסמינר יעמיד כלים חדשים לביקורת ספרות נשים. כלים אלה מתיימרים לטעון שספרות נשים כותבת מחדש—באופן סדיר ותדיר מהמאה השמונה עשרה ועד לספרות המאה העשרים—עמדות ספציפיות של הסובייקט הנשי בשפה ובשיח וגם בייצור התשוקה. בסמינר יחקרו הסטודנטים את מעמדה של ג'יין אוסטין—הרווקה הזקנה של הספרות האנגלית ובהרחבה המסמן המוחלט של מעמדה של הרווקה הזקנה בתרבות המערב—כפי שהוא עולה מאהבה ומשפט קדום. הסטודנטים יתבקשו לחקור ולהראות כיצד הסמל של הרווקה הזקנה מקבל מעמד אלגורי בתרבות ופועל לביזורו של האני כמו גם להחדרת מושג הדה-טוריטוריאליזציה לתוך הקורפוס הקנוני של הספרות. כמו כן, יבחנו הסטודנטים את החתירה תחת איבון המשמעות של המבנה המשפחתי שמעמידה מרי שלי בפרנקנשטיין. עם סיום הסמינר הסטודנטים יקראו טקסטים מאת קולט, ג'ין ריז, וירג'יניה וולף, ומרגריט דוראס. הסופרות מטרימות טענות שעולות בביקורת הספרות העכשווית. לאור יצירות מודרניות אלה הסטודנטים יבחנו מחדש טענות קנונית שרואות באישה רחם, כלי שברירי (delicate vessel)—שדומה גם לקופסת תכשיטים או ליומן אישי נעול על מפתח—העובר פטישיזציה כשהמבט הגברי מתאר את הקונטורים שלו, מגן על הספירה הביתית, וכך גם מכתיב את מרחב המחייה של הסובייקט הנשי באמצעים כלכלים ואסתטיים כמו גם את סגנון חייה של האישה, או את תפקידו של הסגנון בכתביה של הסופרת.
טקסטים וסרטים: מאמרים מאת גילברט, גובר, רות יזל, רולנד בארת', די. איי. מילר, וברברה ג'ונסון, כמו גם טקסטים פסיכואנליטיים של פרויד, לקאן, קריסטבה, וג'ולייט מיטשל. הסטודנטים יצפו בשני סרטים, The Lady Eve ומוות והעלמה.
חובות הקורס: קריאת חובה של כול הטקסטים, כפי שבהמשך יפורט בסילבוס, כמו גם צפיית חובה בסרטים, בין אם בהקרנות מאורגנות ובין אם באופן עצמאי. הסטודנטים יתנו רפרט בכיתה במהלך הסמסטר ועבודה סמינריונית או רפרט בסיום הסמינר.

Course Description: In The Madwoman in the Attic, the classical work of feminist literary criticism, Sandra Gilbert and Susan Gubar are deconstructing the feminine subject in literature: "Thus, because he is an author, a 'man of letters' is simultaneously, like his divine counterpart, a father, a master or ruler, and an owner: the spiritual type of a patriarch, as we understand that term in Western society." A question emerges from this description of the structure of the novel in the 18th-19th centuries—not just from the ideologies represented by these master texts of Western culture—which the scholars examine even while they subvert and reconstitute it: "Where does such an implicitly or explicitly theory of literature leave literary women? If the pen is a metaphorical penis, with what organ can females generate texts?"
First, students will read canonical novels that support, consolidate, subvert and even refute arguments made by literary and feminist criticism. Next, the students will read seminal articles in the field and fashion new tools for feminine criticism. These tools presume that feminine literature rewrites—systematically and perpetually from the eighteenth through the twentieth century—the specific postures of the feminine subject in language, discourse, and in the production of desire.
Texts and Films: Jane Austen, Emily and Charlotte Bronte, Jean Rhys, Mary Shelley, George Eliot, Colette, Marguerite Duras, Virginia Woolf, Alice Walker and articles by Gilbert, Gubar, Ruth Yeazelle, Roland Barthes, D. A. Miller, and Barbara Johnson, E. Anne Kaplan, Stanley Cavell, including psychoanalytical text by Freud, Lacan, Julia Kristeva, and Juliette Mitchell. Students will watch three films, The Lady Eve, Death and the Maiden, and Moonstruck.

הסמינר יעסוק בקשרים בין טראומה חברתית (טראומה שהגורם לה הוא מבנה חברתי דכאני: סקסיזם, הומופוביה, גזענות וכד') לבין בושה, כרגש דומיננטי בפסיכופתולוגיה פוסט-טראומטית.
טראומה ובושה יבחנו במסגרות השיח הפסיכואנליטי, הפמיניסטי, הפוסט -קולוניאלי והקווירי. את רגש הבושה נבחן גם במסגרת השיח העכשווי על פוליטיקה של רגשות, תוך דגש על אופייה הדיאלקטי של הבושה ותנועתה בין הכפפה להתנגדות.
נעסוק בקשרים בין בושה ודיכוי, בסוגיות עכשוויות שקשורות במוביליזציה של הבושה, בייצור ארכיון של ייצוגים אלטרנטיביים לפעולותיה המכפיפות של הטראומה בכלל ושל הבושה בפרט.
במסגרת הקורס נקרא טקסטים מאת: מרתה נוסבאום (Nussbaum), שרה אחמד (Ahmed), ג'ודית באטלר (Butler), קלי אוליבר (Oliver), אן סווטקוביק (Cvetkovic) ג'ורג'יו אגמבן (Agamben), איב סג'דוויק (Sedgwick) ורבות אחרות.

הקורס יעסוק בהגדרת יחסי מיגדר (יחסים חברתיים בין גברים ונשים ) בתרבויות שונות וביטויים במרחב , בעיקר המרחב העירוני הישראלי.
חלקו הראשון של הקורס יעסוק בהגדרת מושגים, הבנית רקע תיאורטי והצגת גישות שונות בגיאוגרפיה אשר קשורות להבנת יחסי מיגדר במרחב. בחלק זה ידונו נושאים כמו: מיגדר וזכויות אדם, מיגדר תכנון ופיתוח, מיגדר ומאפיני תעסוקה וכו'.
חלקו השני של הקורס יעסוק ביחסי מיגדר במרחב הישראלי ובעיר הישראלית. הדיון בחלק זה של הקורס יתמקד בשאלת השפעת יחסי הכוח בחברה על יחסי המיגדר, השפעת תרבויות שונות על יחסי המיגדר ובאיזו מידה דומה או שונה המציאות הישראלית המיגדרית ממציאויות אחרות
