Research interests: Greek history, Archaic and Classical; religion and society; Greek colonization and city-states; historical role of myth and cult; ethnicity; Homer and the Odyessy; Mediterranean Studies.

Current position (tenured): Full Professor of Ancient Greek History, Tel Aviv University (April 1996-). At Tel Aviv University since April 1982.
